Hoover, Alabama Position Overview Hoover ENT Associates is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Allergy Nurse to support our allergy program within a busy private ENT practice. This position plays a critical role in the evaluation and treatment of patients with environmental allergies by performing allergy testing, preparing sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) drops, educating patients, and coordinating allergy care with the supervising physician. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, highly organized, and comfortable working independently while maintaining strict adherence to clinical protocols and quality standards. Essential Responsibilities Allergy Testing Perform inhalant allergy testing, including MQT testing, in accordance with physician orders and established practice protocols. Obtain allergy-focused patient histories and assess symptoms prior to testing. Monitor patients throughout testing procedures and identify, document, and respond appropriately to adverse reactions, under physician supervision. Accurately record testing results in the electronic medical record (EMR). Prepare testing rooms, allergen extracts, and supplies for daily clinic operations. Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) Prepare customized sublingual allergy drop formulations according to physician-prescribed treatment plans. Mix and dispense allergen extracts using established protocols and quality control procedures. Maintain detailed mixing logs, inventory records, lot numbers, expiration dates, and patient-specific formulations. Ensure proper storage, handling, and labeling of allergen extracts. Coordinate refill schedules and communicate with patients regarding treatment compliance and follow-up. Patient Education and Care Coordination Educate patients regarding allergy testing procedures, test results, treatment options, and expectations for immunotherapy. Provide instruction on proper administration, storage, dosing schedules, and safety precautions for SLIT therapy. Address patient questions and concerns regarding allergy symptoms, treatment response, and side effects. Monitor patient adherence and clinical progress throughout therapy. Coordinate allergy follow-up appointments and treatment adjustments as directed by providers. Clinical and Administrative Support Assist ENT physician with allergy-related patient care. Maintain inventory of allergy extracts, testing supplies, and emergency medications. Ensure emergency equipment and medications are readily available and appropriately stocked. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff education programs. Compliance and Safety Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and applicable state nursing regulations. Follow practice protocols for allergy testing, immunotherapy preparation, and emergency response. Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards per clinic guidelines. Participate in ongoing competency training related to allergy services. Qualifications Required Current LPN or RN license in good standing. Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Strong organizational, documentation, and patient education skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities in a collegial and friendly office setting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred Previous experience in allergy, ENT, otolaryngology, immunology, pulmonology, or family medicine. Experience performing allergy skin testing and interpreting testing workflows. Experience preparing allergy immunotherapy formulations, including sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT). Familiarity with allergy extract inventory management and compounding procedures. Experience using electronic medical records (EMR).
