Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Cardiac event monitoring Patient sedation monitoring Picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) Associate Degree in Nursing Procedural Sedation Cardiovascular patient monitoring Technical Proficiency Chemotherapy Full Job Description Primary Duties and Responsibilities The Clinical Nurse I•MedSurg role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act to assigned patients on Medical/Surgical units. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Performs other duties as assigned.
Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program:
Conducts Nursing assessments of patients, screening for needs and other health-related concerns. Performs patient assessments including vital signs and monitoring for patient needs. Work closely with MD/NP and therapists as a vital part of the treatment team. Coordinate care with outside providers. Monitor lab results and refer to physician within protocols and guidelines. Identify the need for crisis intervention and clinical nursing practice including personal care services, monitoring and reporting findings, medication self-administration, client teaching and health education, emergency intervention and other nursing services within professional scope of practice.
Therapeutic Apheresis:
Performs therapeutic apheresis procedures and mononuclear cell (MNC) collection processes in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. Collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. Maintains professional accountability in maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies as they apply while providing the highest quality of therapeutic apheresis services to the community. May be called as a resource on a variety of central access catheters related issues. Performs the following apheresis procedures and give rationale for their use: Therapeutic Plasma Exchange, Therapeutic Leukopheresis, Mononuclear Cell Collection. Performs venipuncture and peripheral/central venous access care, including: Arterio-venous graft/fistula, subclavian, internal jugular and femoral central venous catheters. Conduct routine maintenance and quality control on all apheresis and procedure related equipment and assure documentation meets cGMP requirements. Education and Experience Clinical Nurse I's at Magnet designated facilities only require a BSN or that a BSN program is started within one year of hire date and BSN degree is attained within two years of the starting the BSN program. BSN preferred. Additional requirements for specific departments are as follows:
Advanced Brain and Spine Unit:
Fulfills mandatory stroke education requirements per certification. Neurology and Neurosurgery telemetry experience preferred, including but not limited to: stroke, seizure, brain tumor/surgery, Parkinson's, spinal surgery.
Acute Rehab:
Experience in Functional Improvement Measure (FIM) preferred. Previous experience in rehab nursing preferred.
Cardiac Telemetry:
Successful completion of Sub-Intensive, Intermediate, Progressive or Critical Care course/experience preferred. Successful completion of ECG test required. Fulfills mandatory stroke education requirements per certification agency
Gamma Knife:
Previous telemetry experience preferred including but not limited to
PACU, ED, ICU/CCU, GI
Lab units. Successful completion of ECG test required.
GI Lab:
Moderate Sedation experience required. Previous GI nursing experience preferred. Solid computer technical skills required, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and additional Organizational systems (Affinity, SMS, and PACS).
Gyn/Urol:
Medical/Surgical, Gyn/Urology experience preferred. Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI): Experience in cardiac telemetry required. Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI): Successful completion of ECG test required. Orthopedic nursing experience preferred. BSN preferred.
Home Health:
One (1) year of home health care experience preferred. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
Hospice:
Minimum of two (2) years' experience, at least one of which is in the area of public health, home care, or hospice nursing is preferred. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
Ortho Surgery Center:
Successful completion of ECG test required. Two years clinical/management experience preferred.
Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program:
At least 2 years of experience in addiction/behavioral health environment preferred. Self-motivated and directed, must have a positive attitude toward individuals in substance abuse treatment.
Outpatient Treatment Centers Infusion:
For Oncology infusion, oncology infusion experience is required. For Non-Oncology Infusion, no experience is required.
Pain Management Center :
Pain Management Procedural/Clinic experience, Interventional Radiology Procedural experience, Vascular access experience, Spine Ortho/neuro specialty experience, OR Circulating experience preferred.
Radiation Oncology:
Oncology experience preferred.
NB Interventional Radiology, CT, Magnetic Resonance, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray:
Interventional Radiology experience preferred.
HHI Main X-Ray:
Interventional Radiology and/or vascular access experience preferred.
PICC Services:
Ultrasound guided vascular access experience is preferred. Surgical•6
West:
Experience in SUB-ICU preferred. Experience on Surgical-6 West unit preferred.
Telemetry:
Previous Telemetry experience preferred.
Therapeutic Apheresis:
ADN required, BSN preferred, however, BSN program must be started within one year of the hire, and must be successfully complete within 2 years of starting program. One year critical care, dialysis, or donor/patient apheresis experience. One year donor/patient apheresis experience preferred. License Required Registered Nurse in the State of California•Current and in good standing. License Preferred N/A Certifications Required All Clinical Nurse I's are required to have current BLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
Advanced Brain and Spine Unit:
NIHSS and ACLS required upon hire.
Cardiac Telemetry:
ACLS required upon hire. Completes annual stroke education per Hoag Hospital guidelines.
Gamma Knife:
ACLS required upon hire.
GI Lab:
ACLS.
Gynecology/Urology:
Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy Provider Card required to administer chemotherapy on hire or within year of hire as designated by manager.
Heart Valve Clinic and CVOR :
BLS and ACLS required upon hire. Completes annual stroke education per Hoag Hospital guidelines. Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI):
