PATIENT POPULATION
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Unit Director, Clinical Manager and Charge Nurse, the R.N. (Registered Nurse) independently provides holistic, individualized care using the Nursing Process for patients routinely seen on the unit. Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competency, Nursing judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care. Independently performs general and unit-specific clinical skills. Contributes to the Sierra View Medical Center Department of Patient Care Services and the Nursing profession in a positive manner. Is responsible for the assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups. Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act. (Gov't. Code §§ 3100, 3102) Needs to recognize that they have an affirmative duty and responsibility for reporting perceived misconduct, including actual or potential violations of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, or this organization's standards/code of conduct. The employee shall work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines; and the incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. Must have and maintain current BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care. Must have and maintain ACLS certification or obtain within six (6) months of assignment to department. Six (6) month time frame is at the discretion of the Department Director. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required. Ability to calculate medications appropriate to patient population served. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills. Ability to recognize patient education needs and seek necessary educational opportunities to manage identified needs to ensure quality and safe patient care.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS

Indicates Essential Function 1- Is responsible for the assessment, treatment and/or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups. 2
- Utilizes holistic assessment skills, recognizing subtle, covert or abnormal signs and symptoms that include at least one of the following: involvement of patient/significant other, discharge needs, psychosocial needs, biophysical needs, environmental needs, teaching needs. 3
- Identifies nursing diagnosis and interdependent nursing problems and selects applicable nursing care standards to guide patient care.
- The effectiveness of the Plan of Care is evaluated and communicated through exchange report; recommendations are made for future care and are consistent with current documentation. 8
- Communicates evaluation of, or changes in, patient status providing supportive data to the physician or health care team as appropriate. 9
- Demonstrates adherence to the Joint Commission "National Patient Safety Goals for Hospitals" as defined by Scope of Practice. 10
- Documentation reflects compliance with established Hospital policies and procedures. 11
- Demonstrates knowledge of role by adherence to NPSGs as it relates to area of practice. 12 Demonstrates an understanding of the use, actions and interactions of drugs used in combination for patients with multi-system problems. 13
- Completes required unit specific performance criteria checklist. 14
- Demonstrates proper Infection Prevention skills to include Standardized Protocols or procedures related to central lines and indwelling Foley catheters.
- Upholds all aspects of the Nursing Practice Act as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing. 19
- Provides evidence of adherence to all nine (9) ANA Code of Ethics for the Nursing profession.
INTENSIVE CARE UNIT SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1- On the shift assigned, performs the role of Intensive Care Unit R.N. according to the policies and procedures of Sierra View Medical Center and Critical Care Services. 2 Maintains certification by the American Heart Association in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. 3 Successfully completes a class in basic arrhythmia recognition, and maintains competency. 4
- Initiates appropriate measures to support patient survivability and maintains functionality during life-threatening events. 5
- Communicates patient needs with other care providers in an effective and timely manner. 6 Demonstrates knowledge of chain of command for effective issues resolution at SVMC. 7
- Ensures the ICU rooms are set up properly to receive the critically ill patient in an efficient manner. 8 Demonstrates ability to care for the ICU patient population by passing the annual unit-specific competencies. 9
- Is ready for shift huddle.
