This job will provide specialist safeguarding children advice and support to practitioners across North Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. To deliver safeguarding supervision to staff across the organisation to facilitate good practice, professional curiosity and critical thinking. To act in accordance with The Children Act 1989 and 2004 and assist in monitoring standards and procedures for safeguarding children in the Trust, including adherence to the requirement of Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018). To work closely with Children's Social Care and other partner agencies to support the development of integrated locality working and provide safeguarding children advice on health matters. To contribute to multi-agency and Trust audits and lead programmes of work to improve safeguarding policies and practice in collaboration with the Named Nurse / Named Midwife. To support the Named Nurse / Named Midwife in service development and implementation of learning from Local and National safeguarding reviews. To contribute to the Trust safeguarding training programme to ensure that the training requirements across the organisation are met and the principles of safeguarding are promoted and embedded into everyday professional practice. The post holder will develop robust working relationships with:

  • Named Nurse, Named Midwife and Named Doctors for Safeguarding Children
  • Group Associate Director of Safeguarding
  • Safeguarding Adults Team
  • Maternity staff, Emergency Department staff, Paediatric staff and Neonatal Unit staff
  • Health professionals from other organisations include mental health provider trusts and safeguarding teams in other providers.

  • Other multi-agency partners including the voluntary sector Person specification Experience Essential criteria Significant post registration experience as a Band 6 which includes in interagency safeguarding practice.
Desirable criteria Experience of working in the NHS Experience of delivering safeguarding supervision and an understanding of the supervision process Experience in clinical audit Personal Attributes Essential criteria Excellent communication skills Flexible approach to work Ability to constructively challenge trust and interagency staff Ability to manage high risk, stressful situations Ability to work on own initiative and to work independently ensuring the safety of the child is paramount Ability to lead, manage and motivate self and others. Disclosure and Barring Checks (DBS) It is the policy of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, that all successful candidates who are new to the Trust who require DBS clearance for the post they have been offered, are required to pay the cost for their DBS certificate. The method of payment for this is via salary deduction from your first month's pay on commencement with the Trust. The DBs check will be undertaken during the pre-employment check screening. Qualifications Please note the essential qualifications required for the post are outlined within the Person Specification. You are required to provide original evidence of the necessary qualifications for the post at interview should you be shortlisted. You will also be required to provide original copies as part of the pre-employment check screening. New Starters - Probationary Period For any new employees commencing employment with North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, you will be subject to satisfactory completion of a 6 month probationary period. Please note that internal applications and individuals that are appointed to fixed term appointments of less than 6 months duration are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or a bank member of staff).
