Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Substitute School Nurse to join our educational team, providing essential health services and support to students in the absence of the regular school nurse. The Substitute School Nurse will deliver comprehensive nursing care and manage health emergencies. Duties Provide immediate response and care for students experiencing illness or injury during school hours, including administering first aid, CPR, AED operation, and basic life support. Assess student health needs through vital signs measurement, patient assessment, and physiology knowledge to determine appropriate actions or referrals. Administer medications, injections, IV insertions, and other treatments following strict protocols and medical documentation standards. Maintain accurate medical records using electronic health records (EHR) systems and ensure confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers regarding student health concerns and treatment plans. Monitor and manage infectious disease control measures within the school environment to ensure safety for all students and staff. Collaborate with school staff on health policies, emergency response procedures, and compliance with state nursing practice acts and health regulations. Experience Valid licensure as a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN) through the State Board of Nursing with current certification in CPR, First Aid, AED operation, and Basic Life Support (BLS). Prior experience working in a school clinic setting is highly preferred; experience in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or urgent care is advantageous. Ability to work independently while maintaining excellent communication skills for effective parent interaction and interprofessional collaboration.
