Description Camp Nurse Job Description Job Description The Justice Education Center's mission is to improve the lives of children, youth, and adults through increasing community safety, reducing crime and violence, and providing educational and wellness opportunities for Connecticut's children, youth, and families. $1000 - $2,000 per week dependent upon license and experience Position Purpose The camp nurse is responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of campers and staff. This includes administering medications, providing first aid, managing health records, and ensuring a safe and healthy camp environment. They also play a crucial role in health education, risk management, and communicating with parents and healthcare professionals. Essential Job Functions 1. Assume all nurse's roles and responsibilities including approving and signing for all meds given under "standing orders." And ensuring daily completion of MAR's. ensure stewardship of current resources and recommend development for future needs. 2. Maintain CLEAN and disinfected living and working area in the health center 3. Ensure camper and staff safety, health and overall well-being. Attend and complete all staff paperwork and trainings. Ensure all camper and staff health records are up to date. Follow up with parents via phone for missing health records. This includes doctor or PCP directions for any medications we are expected to administer at/during camp. Maintain and review all daily health visit records using the bound book. (at a future date this may go online). Ensure complete documentation of all treatment given, phone calls to parents and physicians, and all follow up health care plans and actions. Make sure the log book is reviewed, signed, and dated by Camp Doctor or APRN every week. Oversee regular Health Center activities including, but not limited to: Sick call Inpatient care Administration and documentation of medications and treatments Act as liaison with Kitchen for campers and staff with food allergies. Planning for, and seek arrangements for, advanced medical treatment for campers and staff. (The Camp Nurse is responsible for determining when campers and staff need to be seen by a doctor or taken to the ER) Determine when 911 call need to be placed Represent camp as liaison with parents and physicians when appropriate, with timely and professional communication. Respond to camp emergencies. Keep emergency equipment in good order with routine checks. Maintain an awareness of campers with specific medical issues or special needs, including self-carry medications. Report all injuries immediately and fill out appropriate forms. Use the Camp Behavior policy when correcting a camper's behavior. Maintain CPR and First Aid Certification as required by state. Assist in Meeting and maintaining State, and American Camp Association standards. Other Job Duties Other duties as may be deemed necessary by the Camp Director or yourself to ensure the Health and Safety of the Campers and Staff. Relationships Keep in mind that at all times the Administrative Staff are the face of Camp Inspire in the local community and behave in such a way that the community has a positive impression of our program. Proficiencies Must be able to use Microsoft Word and be willing to learn to use the software chosen by the Justice Education Center in the administration of Camp. Qualifications (Minimum Education and Experience) Must meet the requirements set forth by the State of Connecticut and the American Camp Association for aCamp Nurse:
Must submit to and pass a background check; Must complete mandated reporter training (available on line). Must complete Sexual Harassment Awareness training (available on line). Should be at least 25 years of age. Hold a Bachelor's Degree, and be an RN or an APRN licensed by the State of Connecticut. S/he must hold a current CPR certificate from an approved source. (American Red Cross, American Heart Association). Previous camp experience is an asset, but not a requirement. Physical Requirements The Camp Nurse should have good listening skills. S/he should be able to observe the actions of others in order to evaluate their performance. S/he should be literate and be able to understand manuals and comprehend instructions. S/he should be willing and able to point out when instructions and manuals are not clear. The Camp Nurse should be able to move about the c amp property regardless of the weather. Responsibilities of All Camp Staff Follow all policies as outlined in the Staff Manual Maintain positive working relationships with campers, parents, and other staff Encourages physical, emotional and growth and positive character development in all campers Practice cultural humility, striving to actively learn about and be sensitive to all cultures Maintains the cleanliness of your living space (and communal living space) to which you are assigned Care for and maintain any program equipment, supplies, and spaces used Any observed risks or facilities in disrepair must be immediately reported to the Director. Assist with other job duties outside the normal scope of your job description or contract to ensure that programs run safely. Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities.
