Job Description
Position Overview:
The Wound Healing RN provides direct nursing care to patients with acute, chronic, and complex wounds. This position works closely with physicians and other members of the wound care team to assess patients, implement treatment plans, provide education, and monitor healing progress.Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive wound assessments and document wound characteristics, measurements, treatment, and patient progress.
- Provide wound care and dressing changes according to physician orders and established clinical protocols.
- Assist physicians and providers during wound care procedures and treatments.
- Monitor patients for signs of infection, complications, or changes in condition and communicate concerns promptly.
- Provide patient and family education regarding wound care, infection prevention, nutrition, pressure relief, and treatment compliance.
- Coordinate care with physicians, home health agencies, pharmacies, durable medical equipment providers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Assist with preparation and monitoring of patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy, as applicable.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Support quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care throughout the healing process.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Wound Healing Institute.
Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida or valid multistate license.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Previous nursing experience required.
- Strong assessment, communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Previous wound care, medical-surgical, home health, outpatient, or specialty clinic experience.
- Wound care certification such as WCC, CWCA, CWCN, or CWS is preferred but not required.
- Experience with chronic wounds, diabetic ulcers, pressure injuries, vascular wounds, or post-surgical wounds.
- Experience with hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a plus.
