Job Description

Position Overview Pioneer Critical Care is seeking experienced Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners to join our hospital-based critical care team in Southern Hillsborough County, Florida. This is an excellent opportunity to provide high-acuity ICU care within a collaborative, physician-led organization committed to quality, innovation, and compassionate patient care. You would also be working in one hospital. APPs will work 12-hour shifts on a 7-on/7-off schedule, with both daytime and nocturnist positions available. Shift options include 7:00 AM-7:00 PM and 7:00 PM-7:00 AM. Key Responsibilities Provide high-quality care for critically ill patients during 12-hour day or night shifts. Manage complex ICU cases, including acute respiratory failure, shock, sepsis, ventilated patients, and other high-acuity conditions. Collaborate with physicians, APP colleagues, nursing, respiratory therapy, hospital teams, and leadership to support seamless patient care. Respond to changes in patient status, participate in rapid response events, and escalate care appropriately. Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory testing within scope of practice. Perform advanced procedures as credentialed, including central and arterial lines, chest tubes, thoracentesis, needle thoracostomy, and intubation. Support quality improvement, patient safety, documentation, compliance, and team-based workflow initiatives. Qualifications Current Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license, or eligibility for licensure, in Florida. Graduate of an accredited PA or NP program; Acute Care NP certification required for APRN candidates when applicable. Minimum of 1+ year of APP hospital experience preferred; ICU APP experience strongly preferred. Prior ICU RN experience valued. Ability or willingness to develop proficiency in advanced critical care procedures within credentialed scope. Strong clinical judgment, communication, teamwork, and patient-centered approach to care.
