Job Description:
Promotes and protects the optimal health status of students. Provides health assessments. Screens and evaluates findings of deficit in vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, etc. Identifies abnormal health findings. Implements student health plan. Interprets the health status of students to parents and school personnel. Initiates referrals to parents, school personnel or community health resources for interventions, remediation and follow through. Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students. Implements procedures and provides for emergency nursing management for injuries/illnesses. Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases. Treats confidential information and sensitive situations with discretion. Presents a professional image when representing the school district through word, action and dress. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance. Performs other duties as requested and required.
Education, Certification or Training:
State of Georgia Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse Certification required•pay will be designated at the LPN rate on the Classified Hourly salary schedule. Current BLS certification preferred. Five years of experience.
Skills:
Ability to make (quick and methodical) decisions pertaining to critical care of students and employees. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Excellent organizational skills to include specificity with documentation of records. Ability and knowledge to work effectively as a nurse/paramedic in a school setting.
Experience:
5 years of experience to include but not limited to the following: GJ-tube feedings and flushes Seizure activity monitoring, documentation Medication administration (PO, Inhalation, GJ-tube, Rectal, Subcutaneous/IM injections, Topical) Vagal Nerve Stimulator magnet therapy Vital sign monitoring PRN Oxygen therapy Oral suctioning PRN Chest percussive/physiotherapy PRN Transferring/position changes (if student is immobile) Toileting (diaper changes, perineal hygiene care) Communication skills Attendance and punctuality The Bartow County Board of Education reserves the right to accept equivalent qualifications as the Board may deem appropriate and acceptable.
