Job Description
About Us For more than 46 years, Suburban Hematology Oncology Associates has served Gwinnett County with comprehensive hematology and oncology care. In partnership with Northside Cancer Institute, we provide evidence-based, patient-centered cancer care across the continuum — from diagnosis through survivorship and inpatient management. Our providers work collaboratively within hospital systems to ensure seamless coordination of care for complex oncology and hematology patients. We are committed to clinical excellence, compassionate service, and thoughtful multidisciplinary collaboration. Position Overview We are seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our team in an inpatient hematology/oncology consultation and patient management role . This position focuses on hospital-based consultative services, acute patient management, and coordination of care for patients admitted with oncologic or hematologic conditions. The provider will work closely with supervising physicians, hospitalists, specialists, nursing teams, and case management to deliver comprehensive inpatient care. Key Responsibilities Inpatient Consultation Services Evaluate and manage new inpatient hematology and oncology consults Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations Develop assessment and treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians Interpret laboratory data, pathology reports, imaging, and diagnostic studies Acute Hematology/Oncology Management Manage oncologic emergencies (e.g., neutropenic fever, tumor lysis syndrome, hypercalcemia of malignancy, spinal cord compression) Oversee inpatient chemotherapy administration when indicated Monitor and manage treatment-related toxicities and complications Provide transfusion management and supportive care planning Care Coordination & Discharge Planning Collaborate with hospitalists, subspecialists, pharmacy, nursing, and case management Facilitate transitions of care between inpatient and outpatient settings Coordinate follow-up appointments, infusion services, and outpatient oncology care Participate in goals-of-care discussions and palliative care coordination as appropriate Procedural Support (as credentialed and trained) Assist with or perform bone marrow biopsies Provide support for lumbar punctures and other indicated procedures Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate, timely inpatient documentation within the hospital electronic medical record(EMR); Cerner Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and scope of practice standards Qualifications Active, unrestricted Georgia APRN or PA license National board certification required Oncology or inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred Minimum 1 year of oncology, hematology, or hospital-based experience preferred Strong knowledge of hematologic disorders, malignancies, and oncologic emergencies Proficiency in acute care patient assessment and clinical decision-making Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS preferred Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification preferred Excellent communication skills and ability to function within multidisciplinary teams Ability to manage complex cases in a fast-paced inpatient environment Training and oncology mentorship will be provided for the right candidate with strong inpatient clinical experience and interest in hematology/oncology.
