Competitive salary based on experience About the Position We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly motivated Director of Nursing (DON) to join our growing hospice agency in Lilburn, Georgia. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong hospice nursing leader to serve as a foundational member of our clinical team and help build a high-quality, patient-centered hospice program from the ground up. The Director of Nursing will provide overall leadership and oversight of nursing operations, ensuring that patients and families receive safe, compassionate, and clinically excellent end-of-life care. The ideal candidate is an experienced hospice nurse and leader who understands the importance of compliance, clinical quality, teamwork, communication, and dignity in hospice care. You will work closely with executive leadership, physicians, patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team to establish strong clinical systems, support staff development, and maintain the highest standards of patient care. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership & Patient Care Provide leadership, direction, and clinical oversight to the nursing department. Ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, individualized, and high-quality hospice care. Monitor clinical services and ensure appropriate nursing interventions and care plans are implemented. Participate in patient and family care as needed, including local home visits and supervisory visits. Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and address changing clinical needs. Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing staff. Compliance & Quality Assurance Ensure nursing services are provided in accordance with applicable Medicare/Medicaid, state, federal, and hospice regulations . Maintain compliance with agency policies, procedures, and clinical standards. Monitor documentation, patient records, care plans, and other clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. Help develop, implement, and maintain clinical policies, procedures, protocols, and workflows. Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities. Identify opportunities for improvement and implement corrective actions when needed. Ensure patient health information is handled securely and confidentially. Staff Management & Development Recruit, interview, onboard, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff. Establish appropriate orientation and training processes for new clinical employees. Provide ongoing education, coaching, and mentorship to nursing staff. Coordinate and facilitate regular in-service education and competency training. Promote a positive, collaborative, and accountable clinical culture. Address performance concerns professionally and in accordance with agency policies. Operations & Leadership Collaborate with executive leadership regarding clinical operations, staffing, and organizational goals. Assist with departmental budgeting, staffing plans, and appropriate allocation of clinical resources. Monitor staffing needs and help ensure adequate clinical coverage. Participate in leadership meetings and provide regular updates regarding clinical operations and patient care. Assist with developing and implementing processes as the agency grows. Support the agency's overall mission, values, and commitment to exceptional hospice care. Qualifications Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Georgia. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred/required. Minimum of 3-5 years of professional nursing experience , with significant hospice experience. At least 2 years of hospice nursing experience preferred. Previous nursing leadership, management, or supervisory experience required. Strong understanding of hospice operations, clinical standards, and applicable home health/hospice regulations. Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and clinical documentation systems. Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with physicians, nurses, aides, social workers, chaplains, patients, families, and leadership. Demonstrated commitment to patient dignity, comfort, safety, and quality of life. Ability to travel locally for patient visits, supervisory visits, meetings, and other clinical needs. Must be able to work in person in Lilburn, GA and travel locally as needed.
