2 Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a high-acuity Emergency Department position requiring EPIC proficiency and a GA or compact RN license. Details Work in a busy Emergency Department at an acute care hospital that also serves as a STEMI and stroke receiving facility 24-bed unit including 4 behavioral health rooms and 2 critical care rooms 9-chair vertical flow fast track area and a separate triage area where travelers are required to triage 4 dedicated behavioral health safe rooms and an in-house 24/7 security team stationed in the ER Treats approximately 70-80 patients per day with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 4:1 Patient population spans ages 20-90 with common diagnoses including chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, and uncontrolled diabetes No trauma designation, but a Level 1 trauma center and children's hospital are located 20 minutes away Uses
EPIC EMR
system 1 ED physician on-site at all times, with 2-3 additional midlevels during peak hours 24/7 charge nurse coverage on each shift 1 PCT staffed per shift to assist with transport and phlebotomy Respiratory therapy available 24/7 performing ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs; RNs troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow equipment as needed No dedicated tele/monitor techs; RNs read their own telemetry strips on GE monitors RNs perform their own lab draws Common drips administered include Levophed, epinephrine, fentanyl, and propofol 12-hour evening shifts from 3p-3a with weekends as needed Floating required between 3 memorial campuses within 20-25 minutes of each other, expected to be infrequent No call or standby requirements Requirements Active GA state or compact RN license required Minimum 2 years of experience required Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, and NIHSS Must be adept with EPIC charting system Must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced department with fewer resources than larger teaching or trauma facilities Experience in smaller, fast-paced ED settings preferred Driver's license copy required for consideration Additional Information Provide high-acuity emergency nursing care across a wide range of patient presentations and age groups This position is not suitable for new ED nurses; candidates must be self-sufficient and comfortable managing high acuity patients independently Facility rarely boards patients but transfers a significant number due to criticality Dress code requires navy blue scrubs; plain or facility-branded sweatshirts permitted, no hoodies allowed Orientation includes two 8-hour hospital orientation shifts at the main campus and two 12-hour clinical orientation shifts with a preceptor during the first week Holiday coverage expected for travelers unless otherwise negotiated Local candidates accepted Candidates must not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
