FTE JOB DUTIES
This position is a regional role located within the Urgent Care at Po'ipū department of the Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua'i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai'i. The HHSC Kaua'i Region encompasses Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both classified as critical access hospitals, along with the Kaua'i Region Clinics and their affiliates. The Urgent Care at Po'ipū is committed to delivering high-quality, immediate medical attention for non-life-threatening conditions, ensuring that patients receive timely and effective care. Our experienced healthcare professionals are equipped to manage a wide spectrum of urgent medical issues, including minor injuries, illnesses, and preventative services such as vaccinations and health screenings. With extended hours and a focus on patient-centered care, we provide a convenient alternative to emergency room visits, ensuring our community has access to essential healthcare services when needed. The Registered Professional Nurse (RPN) III is responsible for triaging patients based on acuity, documenting assessments, and coordinating care for urgent care patients while prioritizing their needs. This role involves assisting providers during examinations and treatments, preparing and maintaining records for all urgent and routine visits, and facilitating admissions to the emergency room or other hospital facilities as necessary. The RPN III independently develops and implements nursing care plans across various clinical services, provides nursing treatments and educational services, and may supervise other RPNs, Per Diem Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Medical Assistants (MAs), Outpatient Clinical Assistants (OCAs), Clinic Receptionists, and other clerical support staff, either directly as the charge nurse of the unit or as a float nurse on an assigned shift and undertake other related duties as required. This position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, and may involve assignments at different clinic locations to meet operational and patient care needs. This position reports to the RPN V (Urgent Care Clinic Nurse Manager), position number 59859, or their designee.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week. Applicants are required to provide evidence of licensure(s), certification(s), and licensure(s).
EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
NURSING EXPERIENCE
Six (6) months of professional nursing work experience.
CERTIFICATION
A current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) at the time of appointment.
SELECT CERTIFICATION
Of the six (6) months of professional nursing experience required, six (6) months must have been in an urgent/emergency or other clinical setting, where the employee independently demonstrates critical thinking skills and age-specific knowledge; IV and phlebotomy skills are required; Experience with triage, assisting with minor procedures, CLIA waived testing, and scheduling diagnostic exams is necessary.
LICENSURE
A current, valid license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawai'i.

An active State of Hawai'i type #3 driver's license is preferred.
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for one year of nursing experience.
QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE
Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she can perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.

Apply nursing theory and practices to planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms of patients' conditions and take appropriate action; direct the work of nursing assistants; work effectively and cooperatively with patients, family members, medical staff, and employees; prepare comprehensive nursing diagnoses and nursing care plans; and plan and direct the work of lower-level registered nurses and nursing assistants assistants; work at a fast pace in an environment with constant diversions and interruptions, while paying attention to details, and prioritizing multiple projects and multiple requests; ability to problem solve and make decisions; reasoning and analytical thinking in responding to conflicting demands; self-control and stress tolerance in dealing with multiple requests, deadlines and conflicting demands from multiple customers; work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference desirable; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED SKILLS
Familiarity with standards, regulations, requirements of Medicare, Medicaid, TJC, procedures used in surveillance and control of Clinic/ Hospital facility infections.

MEDICAL/PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT
