Job Description

Position Summary:

The School Associate plays a vital role in supporting students and staff by assisting with daily classroom activities, supervising students, and helping create a positive, safe, and productive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide basic first aid and health-related support to students under established district procedures and the direction of the school nurse and/or building administration.

Assess student health concerns and determine appropriate next steps within the scope of the position, including returning students to class, contacting parents/guardians, or seeking additional medical assistance.

Administer medications and provide routine health-related services in accordance with physician orders, parent/guardian authorization, district policy, and applicable procedures.

Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including documentation of health office visits, injuries, illnesses, medications, and parent/guardian communications.

Monitor students with known health conditions and assist in implementing individual health plans, emergency action plans, and other health-related accommodations as directed by the school nurse.

Respond appropriately to student injuries, illnesses, and medical emergencies, including following established emergency protocols and contacting appropriate personnel.

Communicate effectively and professionally with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, the school nurse, and other staff regarding student health needs.

Support student attendance and learning by helping students safely return to the classroom when appropriate while identifying situations that require additional care or dismissal.

Assist with health screenings, immunization records, required health documentation, and other student health compliance activities.

Maintain the health office, supplies, equipment, and medication storage areas in a clean, organized, secure, and appropriately stocked condition.

Follow infection-control practices and district procedures related to communicable illnesses, bodily fluids, sanitation, and student health and safety.

Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student medical, educational, and personal information.

Provide students with calm, compassionate, age-appropriate care while promoting independence and appropriate health and hygiene practices.

Collaborate with school personnel to support students whose health needs may affect their participation, behavior, attendance, or academic success.

Perform other health, safety, clerical, and student-support duties as assigned by the school nurse or building administration.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or experience working with children is preferred.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Patience, flexibility, and a genuine care for children and their well-being.

Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from supervising staff.
