DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

(include but are not limited to the following) Clinical Care

• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments for oncology infusion and OTIC patients prior to each treatment, during treatment, and after treatment as indicated.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with providers and the interdisciplinary care team.
• Review laboratory values, weights, vital signs, provider orders, treatment plans, treatment parameters, medication parameters, and provider treatment authorization prior to treatment initiation.
• Verify chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, infusion, blood product, and high-risk medication orders in accordance with departmental policy, organizational policy, and evidence-based oncology standards.
• Safely administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, biotherapy, blood products, IV hydration, antibiotics, iron infusions, injections, supportive medications, and other infusion treatments according to established standards and protocols.
• Perform independent double-verification of chemotherapy and other high-risk medications per departmental policy.
• Perform vesicant management, extravasation prevention, and extravasation response according to approved policies and orders.
• Monitor patients throughout treatment and promptly identify and respond to hypersensitivity reactions, infusion-related complications, treatment toxicities, changes in condition, and emergencies.
• Initiate appropriate emergency interventions for infusion reactions, oncologic emergencies, and other urgent clinical situations, including rapid response actions when indicated.
• Access, maintain, flush, de-access, and troubleshoot implanted ports, PICC lines, peripheral IV devices, and other vascular access devices within scope and competency.
• Administer and document medications accurately in the electronic medical record, including assessments, interventions, patient response, education, follow-up needs, and communication with the care team. Oncology and Infusion Operations
• Coordinate patient care with oncology providers, pharmacists, patient access staff, financial counselors, laboratory, radiology, rehabilitation services, and ancillary departments.
• Review treatment plans and communicate concerns, delays, changes, missing information, or readiness issues to appropriate team members.
• Assist in coordinating patient scheduling, treatment readiness, continuity of care, and follow-up throughout the treatment journey.
• Ensure compliance with chemotherapy and hazardous medication handling, storage, administration, spill response, disposal, and personal protective equipment requirements in accordance with

OSHA, USP

, and organizational guidelines.

• Maintain oncology accreditation, regulatory compliance, infection prevention, patient safety, and quality standards as applicable.
• Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency, improve patient flow, strengthen safety, and support high-quality care delivery.
• Cross-train and assist in other nursing departments as organizational needs require. Education and Patient Advocacy
• Educate patients and caregivers regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, chemotherapy precautions, medications, potential side effects, symptom management, vascular access devices, infection prevention, follow-up care, and when to seek medical attention.
• Provide emotional support and advocacy for patients and families throughout the continuum of care.
• Connect patients with community resources, supportive care services, referrals, and interdisciplinary resources as appropriate.
• Serve as a clinical resource for patients, caregivers, and staff within the oncology infusion and OTIC setting. Quality, Compliance, and Professional Expectations
• Follow established oncology, infusion, infection control, hazardous drug, emergency response, and patient safety standards.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, performance improvement projects, safety initiatives, and accreditation readiness activities.
• Maintain required licensure, certifications, competencies, and continuing education requirements for oncology infusion and OTIC practice.
• Participate in orientation, competency validation, and mentoring of new staff as assigned.
• Promote and demonstrate WCHC Core Values and a consistent positive customer experience.
• Maintain flexibility in schedule, including willingness to work additional hours, take low census days, or alternate shifts as needed.
• Maintain regular attendance in accordance with WCHC attendance policies.
• Complete education for professional growth and technical knowledge.
