Consults with Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) regarding medical concerns and issues, including on an on-call basis. Assesses people in support as needed when illness or injury occurs and advises DSPs on course of treatment. Trains and oversees DSPs in medication administration following all Department of Human Services (DHS) guidelines and IAG policies and procedures. Trains staff as needed on specific medical needs of people in support, including but not limited to seizure disorders, specialized diets, choking risks, adaptive medical equipment, and other special conditions. Oversees scheduling of medical, laboratory, health, and dental appointments assuring transportation and staff accompaniment. As needed, administers scheduled and PRN medications as needed following written physician's orders and assures proper documentation. Reviews monthly physician's order sheets, checking for accuracy, and ensures all scheduled medications are present. Contacts pharmacy to order medications as needed or prescribed following physician's orders. Monitors people in support for changes in physical or mental status. Completes Nursing Assessment, Health Risk Screening Tool (HRST), AIMS, Self-Administration of Medication Assessment (SAMA), nursing notes ,and other required paperwork at required frequencies, meeting all deadlines. Contacts physician, Regional Director, QIDP, and/or families or guardians as needed to discuss changes in client physical or mental status. Assures all required documentation is filed in charts of people in support. Assures compliance with Department of Human Services regulations and IAG quality standards. Is available for crisis response and problem-solving as needed. Completes required documentation accurately and on time.
