Position Overview The Pediatric Triage Nurse plays a central role in clinical communication, care coordination, and operational support. This position requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to appropriately triage pediatric concerns, and a high level of organization in managing ongoing patient needs. This role serves as a primary point of contact for parents and caregivers seeking guidance, clarification, and support related to their child's health. The Pediatric Triage Nurse will help families navigate acute illnesses, developmental concerns, medication questions, laboratory follow-up, and general pediatric wellness while ensuring concerns are appropriately escalated to the provider when indicated. This is a Full-Time, in-person position to start at our pediatric office in Oak Brooke, with the ability to move to hybrid after six months. Must-Haves Pediatric triage experience — phone, portal, and email-based clinical assessment Pediatric nursing experience in a primary care, urgent care, or similar clinical setting Functional or holistic medicine experience (personal or professional) Strong understanding of pediatric medications, dosing considerations, and common childhood illnesses Ability to recognize red flags and appropriately escalate concerns Strong communication skills — clear, concise, compassionate, and parent-centered Core Responsibilities Clinical Triage Assess incoming pediatric patient concerns via phone, portal, and email using structured triage protocols Obtain an appropriate clinical history and determine the urgency and appropriate level of care Identify pediatric red flags and symptoms requiring provider evaluation or urgent/emergency care Determine whether patients should be scheduled for an acute sick visit, wellness visit, or provider review Provide clear, informed guidance to parents and caregivers within scope of practice Triage common pediatric concerns including fever, respiratory symptoms, gastrointestinal illness, rashes, injuries, medication questions, and other acute concerns Escalate clinical concerns to the appropriate provider when indicated Care Coordination Facilitate follow-up on laboratory results, diagnostic testing, follow-up care, and provider recommendations Coordinate referrals, imaging, and additional services as directed by the provider Assist families with understanding and following through on visits Track patient needs and ensure appropriate follow-up occurs Communicate with providers regarding changes in patient status or ongoing concerns Support continuity of care between office visits, telehealth appointments, and other clinical services Administrative & Clinical Support Document all patient interactions thoroughly and accurately within the EMR Manage provider inbox workflows and support timely communication with families Assist with pre-visit preparation and post-visit follow-up Ensure appropriate documentation and clinical information is available prior to provider visits Assist with maintaining pediatric triage protocols, workflows, and clinical resources Contribute to the development and improvement of pediatric clinical processes and patient education materials Qualifications Active IL RN or LPN license required Pediatric nursing and/or pediatric triage experience required Primary care, urgent care, or pediatric office experience strongly preferred Demonstrated clinical judgment and ability to prioritize pediatric patient needs effectively Strong understanding of pediatric medications, common illnesses, and age-appropriate clinical considerations Proficiency with EMR systems and patient communication platforms Strong written and verbal communication skills Prior experience or strong interest in functional, integrative, or holistic medicine Professional Attributes High level of organization and attention to detail Calm, compassionate, and confident when communicating with parents and caregivers Ability to manage multiple clinical workflows concurrently Composed and solutions-focused in a fast-paced environment Comfortable working independently while knowing when to escalate concerns Aligned with a root-cause, preventative approach to pediatric care Collaborative, accountable, and patient-centered in all interactions Passionate about supporting children and educating families Why Work Here Choosing to join our team means stepping into a supportive, mission-driven environment where your clinical expertise and whole-child approach to care are truly valued.
