Job Description
Role Description The Critical Care Paramedic / Critical Care Transport Nurse is a full-time, on-site role based in the DeKalb, IL. This role is responsible for delivering high-level critical care during interfacility and emergency transports, including advanced clinical assessment, monitoring, and intervention for critically ill or injured patients. Daily activities include collaborating with sending and receiving healthcare teams, preparing and maintaining equipment, administering medications, managing airways and ventilators within scope of practice, and documenting all care and transport details accurately. The role also involves adherence to safety protocols, participation in ongoing clinical training, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and providing compassionate, professional communication with patients, families, and facility staff. Qualifications Clinical critical care expertise, including advanced patient assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, and management of complex medical and trauma cases. Proficiency with critical care transport equipment such as monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, and related life-support devices. Strong skills in emergency response, triage, and stabilization in pre-hospital and interfacility transport environments. Effective communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and supporting patients and families. Sound clinical judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities under pressure and in dynamic transport conditions. Current licensure as a Paramedic or PHRN in Illinois, with applicable critical care or transport certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, PHTLS/CCTP, CCRN/CEN, CCEMTP, FP-C, CFRN) preferred. Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including lifting and transferring patients and equipment, and working in varying environmental conditions. Experience in critical care, emergency, or transport settings is strongly beneficial; prior ground or air medical transport experience is a plus. Commitment to ongoing education, adherence to protocols and regulatory standards, and maintaining high professional and ethical conduct.
