Start by August 1, 2026 IU Health Fort Wayne is excited to announce the opening of our brand-new hospital in May 2027. We are seeking dedicated and innovative Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioners to join our team early in our development phase. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape our clinical education programs and build the foundation for a cutting-edge, high-quality patient care environment.
Position Overview:
The NPD Practitioner will leverage their clinical expertise and educational prowess to develop core curricula, manage competency programs, and create simulation experiences for all clinical staff across the hospital. This role involves strategic curriculum development, simulation creation, and collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs), utilizing innovative tools such as medical mannequins to foster experiential learning.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development of clinical curricula for all inpatient staff. Support the growth of current Practitioner roles into Specialist positions, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's Degree and NPD certification (or the ability to obtain it). Develop and implement core education programs, including simulation scenarios with SMEs and dummy models. Manage competency assessments, onboarding, and role development initiatives. Collaborate with hospital leadership and stakeholders to create an integrated educational plan aligned with the hospital's strategic goals. Assist in setting up simulation rooms, product sets, and other educational infrastructure prior to hospital opening. Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, inquiry, and clinical excellence.
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree of Nursing (BSN) required. Master's Degree preferred. Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license. Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department/specialty according to patient care policies. Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. Two years experience preferred. Minimum of 3+ years of inpatient clinical experience in critical care, progressive care, Med/Surg, perioperative, or ED settings. Experience in curriculum development, simulation creation, and SME collaboration preferred. Must have the ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet the system educational needs. Must have the ability to display knowledge and utilization of principles of adult learning.
