JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

Student Nurse Externs work in a variety of nursing practice areas throughout Good Samaritan. This role is designed for current pre-licensure registered nursing students currently enrolled in the final year of coursework before graduation.

Essential Job Duties:

Performs or assists with the patients' activities of daily living utilizing the Good Samaritan Professional Practice Model Assists the healthcare team by collecting, reporting, documenting, and delivering care to support high quality and safe outcomes. Improves or maintains patient satisfaction levels by providing care with consideration of the individual needs of the patient/family and their age-specific/developmental needs. Contributes to a high-performance work environment by maintaining specific knowledge and skills needed to perform tasks according to policy and procedure at Good Samaritan Hospital. Hours worked will be split between Patient Care Technician assignments and Student Nurse Extern assignments.

Secondary Job Duties:

Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education -- High school graduate or GED and currently enrolled in final year of an ASN, ADN, or BSN pre-licensure program at an accredited school of nursing. At minimum, one letter of recommendation from a nursing clinical instructor must be submitted with application. Experience -- Maintain GPA 3.2 or better and proof of good standing in the school of nursing. An unofficial transcript must be submitted with application. Reports to: A Nurse Preceptor and is accountable to the Nurse Manager.

Applicants must submit the following with their application: One letter of recommendation from a nursing clinical instructor An unofficial transcript reflecting current enrollment and senior/final-year standing in an accredited ASN, ADN, or BSN nursing program Proof of good standing in the school of nursing Incomplete applications will not be considered.
