School Nurse - PRNJob Overview We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and professional School Nurse to provide healthcare services and support the health and safety of students in a school setting. This is a PRN (as-needed) position , providing flexibility while supporting the school when nursing coverage is needed. The School Nurse will assess and respond to student health needs, provide first aid and nursing care, administer medications as authorized, and support students with ongoing medical conditions. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a genuine commitment to student well-being. Assess students experiencing illness, injury, or other health concerns. Monitor vital signs and student health conditions and maintain accurate documentation. Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, school policies, and state regulations. Respond to medical emergencies, including performing CPR and using an AED when necessary. Develop and maintain individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions or special medical needs. Conduct routine health screenings, including vision, hearing, and other required assessments. Communicate with parents/guardians, school staff, and healthcare providers regarding student health needs. Maintain accurate and confidential health records in accordance with HIPAA and applicable regulations. Educate students and staff on health, wellness, hygiene, illness prevention, and safety practices. Monitor and maintain medical supplies, medications, and equipment in the school health office. Follow state nursing regulations, school policies, and established health and safety procedures. Provide a calm, supportive, and professional environment for students seeking medical assistance. Qualifications & Experience Minimum of one (1) year of professional nursing experience required. Current, active Kansas or Missouri nursing license (RN or LPN/LVN, as applicable) required. Current CPR/AED and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Previous experience in pediatrics, emergency care, urgent care, outpatient, or school health preferred. Strong knowledge of nursing practices, medication administration, infection control, and emergency procedures. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive health information professionally. Comfortable working with children and adolescents of varying ages and medical needs. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school staff and families.
