Job Description

Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health is currently seeking a Public Health Registered Nurse who will serve our mission to create abundant and equitable opportunities for good health. We are looking for a professional who wants to be a part of a supportive, dynamic team working in a tobacco free environment. The Public Health Registered Nurse serves Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health by providing public health services to clients. Support the fulfillment of the organization's mission and values. Essential Job Functions Provide services in assigned LDCHD clinics to include: Provide comprehensive nursing care, including social determinants of health, vital signs, health assessments Provide state mandated surveillance, investigation, reporting, and treatment of Communicable Diseases (CD) such as active and latent Tuberculosis (TB) infections etc. Visit types may include but not limited to family planning, STI, immunizations, Communicable Diseases (CD), sick visits Perform STI exams and treat clients for STI's per protocol Performs minor procedures and treatments within the scope of a registered nurse and written protocol Administer and distribute medications/immunizations per protocol or as ordered by physician or APRN Assist clinicians with examinations, results, and phone calls. Perform, obtain, and handle laboratory tests, venipuncture, and measurements Provide laboratory results, phone calls, education, and record requests to clients as appropriate or requested Complete documentation of patient encounters regarding patient care, condition, treatment, or recommendations Prepare, label and package medications Respond to phone calls from the public with accurate information Assume responsibility for client follow-up as indicated and necessary Assist with community outreach events Work among vulnerable populations (e.g. unhoused, LGBTQ, HIV) Cleaning and restocking clinic spaces Cross-train into other clinic programs and maintain flexibility to support a range of administrative, clinical, and outreach functions as LDCPH priorities evolve Submit cover letter and resume to apply.
Education and Experience:
Associate's degree required, BSN preferred Have and maintain an active RN license to practice in Kansas, required Required Skills and Abilities Spanish language skills preferred Excellent customer service skills Effective communicator (verbal, written and body language) Listening skills and ability to interpret a variety of communications Business reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals Write concise and explanatory documents, proposals, and articles Presentation skills Interpret a variety of instructions either written, oral, diagram, schedule, or electronic formats Respect for and ability to respond to diverse and individual needs Detail oriented Work independently and be self-motivated Meet deadlines and work under pressure with little or no supervision Ability to problem solve with sound judgment Creativity, innovation and problem analysis and problem resolution at the functional level Computer Skills, including knowledge of software programs utilized (e.g. Microsoft Suite products, Adobe products, video conferencing, financial software, proprietary software, and others- required) Knowledge of general office equipment (copier, scanner, fax, etc.) Have and maintain a valid driver's license with reliable transportation Ability to respond to emergency situations Physical Demands Lift and move items up to 40 lbs. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer Bend, kneel and reach items as needed Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls Vision abilities for close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises as needed Learn more about the full job description.
