Schedule:
12-hour night shifts (1900-0700), three nights per week
Minimum Qualifications:
Active KS or Compact RN license BLS certification Minimum 2 years' hospital-based psych nursing experience ED psychiatric assessment experience and competency managing violent patients Strong, independent clinical judgment New graduates are not eligible for this role
Core Responsibilities:
Provide direct nursing care to high-risk psych patients in the Emergency Department, including medication administration, de-escalation, and use of restraints Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, determine disposition, and coordinate patient placement or discharge planning Respond throughout the hospital to crisis calls, supporting staff in de-escalation, behavioral management, and patient safety Collaborate with ED physicians, police, and nurse managers to ensure optimal patient outcomes
