Job Description

The PRN Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care across the perioperative continuum, including Pre-Operative, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Operating Room (OR) circulating roles. This position requires flexibility, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center (ASC) environment. Key Responsibilities Pre-Operative (Pre-Op): Perform patient assessments, including medical history review and baseline vital signs Verify informed consent, procedure, and site Initiate IV access and administer medications as ordered Provide patient and family education regarding the surgical process Ensure all pre-operative documentation is complete and accurate Operating Room (Circulator): Serve as patient advocate throughout the surgical procedure Ensure proper positioning, safety measures, and sterile technique are maintained Coordinate surgical team activities and maintain efficient workflow Perform surgical counts per policy and assist with time-outs Document intraoperative care in accordance with regulatory standards Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU): Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia Assess airway, breathing, circulation, pain, and level of consciousness Administer medications and interventions as needed Identify and respond to complications or emergencies Provide discharge instructions and patient education General Duties Maintain compliance with all regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, accreditation bodies) Adhere to infection control and safety protocols Collaborate effectively with physicians, anesthesia providers, and staff Document care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record Participate in quality improvement initiatives as needed
Qualifications Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Licensure/Certification:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice Current BLS and ACLS certification required
Experience:
Minimum 1-2 years of perioperative nursing experience preferred Experience in Pre-Op, PACU, and/or OR circulating strongly preferred Skills & Competencies Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills Ability to work independently and adapt quickly Excellent communication and teamwork abilities Knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical procedures Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting Work Schedule PRN/as-needed based on surgical volume Must be available for variable shifts and occasional short-notice coverage Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift and assist with patient positioning (up to 50 lbs with assistance) Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for clinical tasks
Pay:
