Job Description

School Nurse The mission of Bright Hope is to glorify God by improving the quality of life of children with special needs, their families and communities.
Little Light House Position Description:
School Nurse Supervisor:
Director Basic Function:
Responsible for providing nursing services to the students to further the ministry and mission of Bright Hope. Accountability Areas and Critical Tasks Health Services for
Children:
1. Assess health/medical needs and gather pertinent data of new and returning students. 2. Assess and treat as appropriate health and/or medical needs of the children as they arise during the school day. 3. Administer medication and/or treatments as ordered by the child's physician. 4. Administer over the counter medication with the signed approval of the parent/guardian. 5. Coordinate and assist with tube feeding for students requiring such. 6. Document all services given on treatment log, medication log, and in child's record as appropriate. 7. Collaborate with classrooms and therapeutic staff concerning emergencies. If the child needs to be transported by ambulance, the school nurse may be called upon to accompany the child if a parent is not available. 8. Keep track of the immunization records of each student, making sure their record is up-to-date and signed by a physician.
Maintain OSHA Requirements:
1. Provide OSHA information to all new staff, emphasizing universal precautions. 2. Provide information on Hepatitis B, vaccination and opportunity to receive through The Little Light House. 3. Maintain and update OSHA guidelines in coordination with supervisor. 4. Review OSHA guidelines annually with all staff members. 5. Maintain cleanliness of work areas - nurse's office.
CPR Certification:
1. Schedule CPR certification for staff members once or twice a year. 2. Assure that at least one classroom staff member is certified in CPR.
Consulting Services:
1. Consult with the parents and classroom staff regarding health/medical needs of the students and 2. OSHA procedures. 2. Model for classroom staff proper medical care of the students and OSHA procedures. 1. Provide in-service training to staff, volunteers, and parents, as needed. 2. Coordinate with the staff regarding the medical needs of the children. 3. Consult as needed with other medical personal involved in the medical care of the children. Transdisciplinary Team & Professional Responsibilities 1. Daily attendance at flock (or the days you are working). 2. Attendance at designated staff meetings. 3. Attendance at Back to School Night 4. Attendance at 2 BHLC fundraising events: Bright Steps and Garden Party 5. Attend workshops/seminars as requested, CS In-services and relevant conferences. 6. 15 Hours of required KY TRIS for all CS staff, in addition to the CEU's for nursing 7. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. General Bright Hope Position Requirements A. Personal relationship with Christ that has been manifested consistently for the duration of her/his life as a Christian. B. Must have an appreciation for trans-disciplinary team approach to Special Education. C. Experience with children birth through six years of age. D.
Excellent skills in:
Communication, able to learn new tasks, teamwork organization, initiative and Able to work independently. E. Self-discipline. F. Ability to work independently and cooperatively with all BHLC staff as a team member. H. Demonstration of emotional stability, maturity, and a desire to grow spiritually such that spiritual principles will be reflected in their day-to-day interactions, and genuine concern for a job done correctly and with regard to others. A. Ability to work effectively with an authority/supervisor. B. Knowledge of the principles of supervision and skill in the practice of them. C. Ability to communicate in both verbal and written forms. D. Ability to work effectively with volunteers, parents, and with related agencies. E. Good organizational and time management skills. A. Able to prioritize tasks and manage multiple tasks. B. Anticipate needs of the assigned work area. A. Maintaining a professional demeanor at all times with staff, families, and community. B. Ability to function with maturity and sensitivity. C. Prioritizing tasks due to the urgent nature of all job components.
