A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

Job Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Health Services, the staff nurse renders quality nursing care to the students at Asbury University. An important part of the position is supporting the ministry and mission of the University and advancing the academic excellence and spiritual vitality of our University and students. Each employee plays an important role in the development of the Christian faith in our students.
Essential Functions:
Plan and provide safe, economical, and efficient nursing care.
Plan, assist, implement, and evaluate patient teaching.
Give quality care to each student in accordance with defined quality standards.
Maintain accurate, complete, and current records and protects the confidentiality of these records.
Screen/Triage students prior to arrival to Health Services via phone or email
Act as liaison between student and provider.
Coordinate nursing activities and other services to provide for the total care of the student.
Follow the standing orders/protocols in dealing with students' illnesses and contacts the provider accordingly.
Carry out physician orders.
Promote positive patient relations and treat others with care and respect, maintaining confidentiality, privacy, and dignity.
Participate in continuing education programs for re-licensure and/or recertification.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time on-site position, where the employee works 15 hours per week for 34 weeks.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
Qualifications of an accredited school of nursing.
Current license (RN) to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky
Minimum of three years of basic nursing experience as a registered nurse, with college health nursing experience preferred, with interest in this field and age group essential.
Mature, warm personality
Thorough knowledge of nursing theory and practice
Ability to make accurate decisions regarding nursing problems
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Assessment, counseling, and teaching skills
Initiative and good judgment
Experience in emergency situations while maintaining efficient operations
Conscientious of cost and safety
Understanding, patience, and tact in dealing with the adolescent/young adult personality
Acute awareness of the spiritual needs of the patient
Dedication to the mission of Asbury University and the needs of its students
Ability to maintain good working relationships with other personnel
A committed and dynamic Christian faith is vital along with the ability to support the University's theological position, lifestyle standards and mission.
