GENERAL OVERVIEW

Enhances the educational process by promoting an optimal level of health for students and staff.

PERFORMANCE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide episodic care (first aid and emergency care) and manage chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and severe allergies. Provide staff training related to health procedures and protocols. Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to meet student health needs. Provide counseling to students on health-related issues. Coordinate and conduct health screenings and referrals for students. Maintain accurate and confidential health records in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines. Serve as a resource for accident and injury treatment and prevention. Deliver health education for students, staff, and parents on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention, and mental health. Administer and supervise appropriate medications per physician orders and district policy. Act as a liaison between parents, teachers, and school personnel regarding student health matters. Promote careers in healthcare by serving as a resource to teachers and students. Provide instruction on health-related topics as mandated by state statutes or as needed. Serve as a member of the school's Crisis Team. Maintain first aid supplies and other health-related materials. Provide courteous and prompt service to students, parents, and school staff. Participate in conferences, including Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plan meetings, to support students with health needs. Develop and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs). Support school wellness initiatives and promote a healthy school environment. Assist in the development and execution of medical emergency drills. Ensure compliance with state-mandated health protocols and reporting requirements. Ensure immunization compliance and report to the Louisiana Department of Health as required. Accurately document student health services in the EIS School Nurse Consultation system. Maintain confidentiality of student and employee health records and prioritize requests professionally. Identify opportunities for improvement in health services and assist in implementing quality improvement initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Certified School Nurse with current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Louisiana; and at least two years in the practice of nursing.
