Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides direct peri-operative patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Assists physicians with examinations, procedures in the OR and other processes related to direct patient care. Administers blood products, and delivers medications to the surgical field. Provides health care instruction/education to patient prior to surgery and family members. Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient's medical treatment. Participates in the planning and implementation of the patient's care. Ensures that patients understand risk and benefits as discussed with physician. Checks identification of patient, including surgical consent, lab work, x-ray reports, and allergies. Reports any change in physical status of patient. Completes all documentation per Policies and Procedures. Responds quickly in any circumstance. Cares for patients professionally and courteously. Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by complying with all applicable safety regulations. Identifies opportunities to standardize processes and error proof systems that will lead to increased safety and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required. Participates in Quality Improvement programs on a regular and continuing basis. Participates in compliance programs such as HIPAA, safety training etc. Performs other duties as assigned.
