Job Description
MedStar Health seeks a compassionate Registered Nurse for our Special Care Nursery per diem team. In this role, you'll provide specialized care to at-risk and convalescing newborns, performing assessments, monitoring vitals, administering medications, and supporting families. You'll collaborate with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, and allied staff to deliver evidence-based, patient-first care. Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to at-risk and convalescing newborns in the special care nursery Perform comprehensive neonatal assessments and monitor vital signs and cardiorespiratory status Administer medications, fluids, and treatments in accordance with provider orders and protocols Operate and monitor specialized neonatal equipment and maintain accurate EHR documentation Collaborate with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary team members on care plans Educate and support parents and families on newborn care, discharge readiness, and follow-up needs Maintain infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards within the nursery Respond to neonatal emergencies utilizing NRP and other critical response protocols Required Skills Neonatal assessment Special care nursery protocols Medication administration Infusion and IV therapy Electronic health records (EHR) Family education and support Neonatal resuscitation Vital sign and cardiorespiratory monitoring Infection prevention and control Interdisciplinary team collaboration
