Job Description
JOB SPECIFIC STANDARDS ASSESSMENT
Assesses physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, educational and developmental dimensions of the patient from pre admission process through patient discharge and provides written documentation of these findings. Assesses & documents patient condition and responses to nursing and/or medical Interventions & communicates the information to the appropriate persons. Assesses patient needs based on preadmission history, scheduled surgical procedure, and physician preferences. Assesses supply & equipment needs for pain management procedure, patient needs, and physician preferences. Interface with staff, patients, physicians and clinics to facilitate the pre-admission process.JOB SPECIFIC STANDARDS PLANNING
Develops an individualized plan of care based on nursing assessment, medical and nursing diagnoses, knowledge of specific illnesses, injuries, diseases, surgical procedures and appropriate standards of care. Collaborates with other disciplines and departments to maximize patient outcomes and effect a smooth flow of the perioperative experience. Plans and utilizes resources efficiently to complete the daily schedule in a timely manner while providing safe and individualized patient care including outside resources, i.e. homecare.JOB SPECIFIC STANDARDS IMPLEMENTATION
Provides care and supplies based on individualized plan of care, identified needs and in a timely, efficient and safe manner. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of special needs for various age groups including infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric when providing resources for the perioperative experience. Functions within the limits of the MN Nurse Practice Act, State and Federal Laws, ISSC, Pre-Op/PACU Department philosophies, policies and procedures and standards of care. Labels and administers medications and solutions as ordered. Applies principles of aseptic technique, standard and transmission precautions. Functions effectively in emergency situations and when under stress. Monitors patients utilizing sound nursing judgment and competent knowledge of equipment based on policies and procedures from patient admission to dismissal. Provides emotional support and comfort for patients/family members, informs family of patient status, and provides patient/family education Assists with procedures (i.e. pain management, blocks, conscious sedation) Follows proper channels of communication and informs department managers of unit activity, patient condition, and personnel concerns.JOB SPECIFIC STANDARDS EVALUATION
Reassesses, evaluates and revises the implementation of the plan of care to meet the changing needs of the patient. Responds appropriately to changes in the patient's condition and/or behaviorJOB SPECIFIC STANDARDS DOCUMENTATION

Participates in department/team meetings. Encourages and supports others. Contributes personally to the "team oriented" environment by demonstrating cooperative, constructive, problem- solving interaction with all Surgery Center employees. Works collaboratively with others to accomplish goal/task Self-motivated - Looks outside of designated assignment area to see what is needed elsewhere.JOB SPECIFIC STANDARDS PRODUCTIVITY ACHIEVEMENT
Sets goals for work tasks and effectively meets goals. Meets productivity standards. Is organized, efficient and effective. Is reliable, dependable and flexible in order to meet patient and department needs. Assists in managing controllable costs by the proper, non wasteful use of Surgery Center resources.JOB SPECIFIC STANDARDS PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Fosters the developmental and educational process of self, colleagues, and students (Includes functioning as a preceptor). Shares with peers knowledge gained through continuing education. Actively participates in QI projects. Contributes ideas for improvement. Identifies issues & assists in collection of data for QI plan. Communicates quality improvement findings with peers and incorporates findings into practice to promote positive outcomes. Pursues activities to enhance personal and professional growth. (Includes meeting departmental continuing education requirements.)JOB SPECIFIC STANDARDS ATTENDANCE/PUNCTUALITY
Is consistent in work attendance. Presents self at the workstation, ready for work, at the scheduled time with no more than four (4) documented tardies. Exhibits flexibility in staffing needs and working environment. Manages personal issues during provided break times and keeps breaks with allotted time. The requirement to sign up for a potential 23 hr stay shift. More information on this will be provided in interview.STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR

One year of PACU or other critical care nursing experience in the last 3-5 years preferred. 4.Special Skills:
Strong Interpersonal skills beneficial. CurrentBLS/ACLS
certification required. 5.Working Conditions:
Will be working in a clean, well-lighted or dimly litarea. May be required to deal with unpleasant environmental situations resulting from patient care or patient activity. 6.Hazards and Risks :
Direct patient contact with possible exposure to communicable diseases, exposure to x-ray, and exposure to anesthetic scavenger gases. PRN 2-4 days a monthNO CALL NO WEEKENDS
