Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

Job Duties:
Answer SMC Triage phone calls and respond to patient needs as well as calls for SMC Providers Accurately and efficiently utilize the nursing process, SMC Triage software, and approved SMC guidelines in order to assist in obtaining the appropriate level of care and/or self-care advice for patients Notify patients of lab, x-ray and test results, as directed by SMC Providers Ensure appropriate scheduling of triaged patient appointments in EHR Execute accurate and thorough documentation and management of electronic desktops according to SMC protocols Respond to walk-in triage appointment requests as needed Respond to calls or electronic contact from other collaborative teams and agencies such as the SMC Pharmacy team, North Shore Health Care Center as appropriate All duties as directed and/or requested by the Health Care Home Team All other duties as directed and/or requested by the
Registered Nurse, licensed in MN Hospital or Clinic nursing background Previous work experience in contact with the public Proficiency in EHR systems and with general office technologies Organization and administrative skills
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for prolonged periods and walk for extensive periods of time. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to stoop, squat, or bend frequently. Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to provide nursing care and operating equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Corrected vision and hearing within normal range to observe and communicate with patients and professional staff, in person and over the telephone, and to read printed materials and a computer screen Exposure to patient elements including communicable disease and bloodborne pathogens.
