A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.
Review camper health histories and immunization forms prior to arrival. On opening day, perform physical and visual screenings (often checking for lice, rashes, or communicable diseases), and collect all camper medications.
Medication Administration:
Safely store, organize, and administer prescribed and over-the-counter medications. Controlled substances must remain locked at all times, with strict adherence to the camp's medical standing orders
Daily Sick Call & First Aid:
Hold designated daily clinics for medication passes, treatments, and triage. You will treat typical camp injuries (sprains, cuts, insect bites) and illnesses (colds, gastrointestinal bugs, homesickness).
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain meticulous and confidential medical logs, incident reports, and parent contact logs to track daily visits and trends.
Infection Control & Staff Training:
Educate camp counselors and staff on universal precautions, first aid kit maintenance, and recognizing the early signs of illness or outbreaks.
Emergency Preparedness:
Establish clear transport and communication protocols with local medical facilities and emergency responders.
