A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

Job Description

Functions of Position:
Administers nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a provider. Performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties utilizing nursing process. Participates in Quality Improvement. Promotes good public relations for the nursing department/hospital. Implements, transcribes, and/or countersigns physician's orders. Competently administers medications with knowledge of action, mode of administration, side effects and contraindications. Assists physicians with diagnostic tests and procedures as required. Assists with admitting, discharging and transferring patients. Possesses knowledge and skill to function effectively as a team leader. Provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary departments and other patient care team members. Competently performs core and unit specific clinical skills. Demonstrates ability to possess clinical data and communicate to physician /nurse practitioner in order to make sound clinical decisions. Utilizes nursing assessment skills to participate in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care. Utilizes nursing process to participate in identifying biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self care, discharge planning, spiritual and educational needs of patient, family, and/or significant other. Participates in patient/family teaching. Calls/puts in orders for medications to pharmacist at patient requested pharmacy. Assists in compiling information for chart and completing electronic documentation.
Qualifications:
Graduate from an approved school of practical nursing. BLS training. Possess current licensure by Missouri State Board of Nursing. I.V. Therapy Certification preferred. Previous nursing experience preferred. Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm
