Job Description

Job Summary:
The RN performs under the Patient Care Coordinator. The RN Staff Nurse shall implement the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation as evidenced by documentation in Patient Care Record, direct observation by Nurse Patient Care Coordinator and patient evaluations of care. The RN is responsible to the ER Patient Care Coordinator for patient care and ultimately accountable to the Director of Nursing. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
Performance Expectations:
Operates equipment you are assigned including but not limited to cardiac monitors, fluid warmers, IO drill, IV infusion pumps and defibrillator. Completes thorough physical assessment of patients. Remains calm and demonstrates composure during stressful situation(s) or environment Maintains confidentiality while on or off duty. Communicates and interact with team members, providers, patients/families, and visitors utilizing the We C.A.R.E philosophy Tolerates physically demanding tasks of moving equipment and patients utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or the patient. Completes triage assessments and sorting according to acuity without error. Provides care of central lines, IV insertion/care and blood transfusions according to policy and procedure Utilizes excellent and thorough written communication skills while charting in the electronic health record. Sets up and maintains the sterile field as needed. Properly identify patients and complete barcode scanning and medication administration accurately. Acknowledge, verifies, and performs said orders as directed by Emergency providers. Places orders in the hospital's electronic health record without error. Monitors supply levels in the emergency department and patient rooms and orders supplies accordingly. Ensures all out of date supplies are removed and discarded. Collects, labels, and delivers specimens to Lab in a timely manner. Multitask and prioritize workload to maintain patient flow thru the Emergency Department. Is competent to access and utilize EMR for the provision of patient care. Educates family and patient on visitation policy, hand washing, and reinforcement of this. Intervenes appropriately and quickly when assessing a patient conditions that worsen and requires immediate physician attention. Communicates and works well with physician on duty and all team members. Reports to duty for any emergency operations as needed. Maintains Isolation procedure while indicated according to policy Compliance 100% with handwashing. Cleans rooms by EVS procedure when necessary Reviews Quality Indicators monthly and strives to exceed goals for trauma, stroke, stemi, barcode scanning, suicide precautions Checks email at beginning and end of each shift. Completes all assigned healthstream modules prior to assigned deadline Attends and completes
Annual Competency Training Course Qualifications:
Education/Skills Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program required.
Work Experience:
One year medical/surgical and/or ER nursing care preferred, but not required. Certification/Licensure-DUE

Days of Employment Required Mental Demands:
