A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

Job Description

Provides direct and indirect care in the acute care setting. Provides care that reflects Initiative, flexibility, and responsibility. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs. Communicates with physicians/nurse manager/co-workers, as appropriate, about changes in patient's status, symptoms, and results of diagnostic studies. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with appropriate supervision. Accountable for directing and supervising patient care and nursing tasks performed by the Nurse Aide I, Nurse Aide II, Unit Secretary, Licensed Practical Nurse, Operating Room Techs, Hospital Volunteers, and other support personnel. Directs and supervises registered nurses when assuming the rule of unit coordinator/charge nurse/team leader or preceptor. Graduate of approved school of nursing; Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred. Associate Degree or Diploma in nursing required. Current licensure as Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Current BCLS required; specialty certification preferred. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English required. Additional languages preferred. Six months to one year's experience as an RN preferred; basic computer knowledge preferred. Previous experience in Operating Room required.
