sign on bonus available for eligible candidates! Department Details The 2 West Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) specializes in the care of patients with epilepsy and seizure disorders. The EMU is a highly specialized unit where patients are electively admitted and monitored continuously, 24 hours a day, for up to five consecutive days. Using advanced monitoring technology and a multidisciplinary approach, our team works to safely capture and evaluate seizure activity to help guide diagnosis and treatment. The primary goal of the EMU is to capture events in a controlled and safe environment. During their stay, patients may have anti-seizure medications adjusted or temporarily discontinued under close medical supervision. Additional methods such as sleep deprivation, hyperventilation, and photic stimulation may be used to help provoke events for diagnostic purposes. Patients are admitted to the EMU for a variety of reasons, including: Classification of seizure-like events Localization of seizure activity for potential epilepsy surgery Evaluation and diagnosis of epilepsy syndromes Rapid adjustment and optimization of anti-seizure medications This role is for YOU if you are a nurse that - Has a strong desire to help others by creating and delivering high-quality individualized patient care in an energizing, tight-knit team environment. Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred. Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
