Job Summary:
Assists in planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care within scope of practice for a registered nurse. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/department's policies and procedures.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Bases practice decisions on departmental/state standards of practice on the unit. Recognizes when to ask questions and is comfortable seeking input from others, attends all in-services and is accountable for their own practice Completes all mandatory education without intervention and is starting to attend educational opportunities that the nurse has self-identified as a learning need in their own professional practice. Maintains current clinical knowledge base and skills. Participates in activities, which facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration. Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Able to identify subtle changes in patient conditions and communicates that to the provider. Communicates the plan of care to all members of the healthcare team. Makes use of multidisciplinary resources in planning care. Able to develop a comprehensive care plan for each patient. Acts as a teacher for patients and families and shares knowledge with peers. Learned appropriate delegation of tasks to other skill levels (LNA/LPN) and verifies that patient tasks are being completed and communicated back accurately to them. Completes daily assignment on time and has an organized and calm demeanor. Is competent in performing all tasks and documentation is complete and appropriate. Using critical thinking skills is able to differentiate between situations requiring immediate versus non-immediate actions and responds appropriately. Utilizes nursing knowledge in the administration of medication and evaluation of effectiveness. Promptly resolves patient care and departmental situations within scope of responsibility and refers problems beyond that scope to appropriate individuals. Brings ideas and questions about professional practice to the unit for assessment as to applicability. Assists with data collection in research studies being conducted in work area. Incorporates new skills into practice Qualifications Education Preferred Associates or better in Nursing or related field. Licenses & Certifications Required Basic Life Support RN License
