MDS Coordinator - Contractor Broadway House for Continuing Care - 3.3 Newark, NJ Job Details Contract $50 an hour 22 hours ago Qualifications HIPAA Clinical documentation Health information management Care plans Medical terminology Full Job Description Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented MDS (Minimum Data Set) Coordinator to join our team as a contractor, dedicated to ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations related to long-term care facilities. This vital role involves managing comprehensive assessments, coordinating interdisciplinary documentation, and supporting quality improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in healthcare documentation, clinical assessments, and medical coding, with a passion for enhancing patient care and operational efficiency. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality resident care within a dynamic healthcare environment. Duties Lead the accurate and timely completion of MDS assessments in accordance with CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) guidelines, including updates for each resident's condition and care needs. Collaborate closely with nursing staff, physicians, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members to gather comprehensive clinical information necessary for assessments. Review medical records, clinical documentation, and coding details such as
ICD-10/ICD-9
codes, CPT codes, and DRGs to ensure accuracy and completeness. Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems like Cerner, Epic, or Athenahealth to document assessments and manage resident data efficiently. Conduct utilization review and management activities to optimize patient care plans while adhering to Medicare and NCQA standards. Support discharge planning processes including hospice care coordination, ensuring proper documentation review and compliance with regulatory requirements. Maintain thorough records of all assessments, documentation reviews, and correspondence in accordance with HIPAA regulations and health information management standards. Skills Extensive experience with MDS coordination in inpatient, outpatient, or long-term care settings; familiarity with nursing home or Level II trauma center environments is highly desirable. Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner, Epic, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks; strong understanding of medical records management. Deep knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical documentation improvement practices. Strong background in managed care processes including Medicare regulations, utilization review/management, and DRG coding procedures. Expertise inICD-10/ICD-9
coding systems along with CPT coding for accurate billing and documentation purposes. Critical care experience such as ICU or PICU settings is advantageous; familiarity with discharge planning and hospice care processes is preferred. Ability to interpret complex medical records while ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards; excellent attention to detail in documentation review. Effective communication skills for collaborating across multidisciplinary teams; ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently within fast-paced environments such as hospitals or clinics.
