Overview The Infection Control Nurse at the Pueblo of Jemez - Jemez Health and Human Services is responsible for leading infection prevention and control efforts at Jemez Health & Human Services (JHHS). This position implements, monitors, and evaluates the Infection Control and Surveillance Plan to minimize the risk and spread of infectious diseases and protect the health and safety of patients, employees, and visitors. The Infection Control Nurse conducts infection surveillance and investigations, ensures compliance with applicable healthcare regulations and policies, and promotes evidence-based infection prevention practices. The position also provides education and training to JHHS employees on infection control policies and procedures and coordinates employee health clinical services. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of infection prevention, epidemiology, microbiology, and public health principles, with a commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy healthcare environment. Duties Promote the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization. Develop, implement, and evaluate the organizational infection prevention program. Work collaboratively with Quality Improvement on related tasks/improvements. Develop an annual surveillance plan based on the population(s) served, services provided, and analysis of surveillance data. Create educational goals, objectives, and strategies using learning principles and available educational tools and technology according to the Infection Control and Surveillance Plan. Assess and address the learning needs of target audiences and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and learner outcomes among JHHS staff. Chair the Infection Control Committee meetings. Work collaboratively with the Safety Officer and the Quality Improvement Specialist. Utilize epidemiologic principles to conduct surveillance and investigations. Communicate infection prevention and control information and data to various committees and healthcare workers across the organization as assigned. Ensure the prevention of healthcare-associated infections in patients, injuries and illnesses in healthcare personnel. Review existing policies and standard operating procedures. Identify gaps and outdated information. Experience Bachelor's degree in nursing or other health-related field (biology, public health/community health, or medical technology). Minimum 2 years' experience as an Infection Preventionist or related healthcare experience with knowledge of infectious diseases, epidemiology, or patient care practices, preferred. Completion of Infection Prevention training Certification within 30 days of employment. Demonstrated expertise in healthcare infection prevention and control regulations, including CDC guidelines and long-term care standards. Prior leadership roles involving team management, training staff on infection control procedures, or overseeing data management systems like MDS (Minimum Data Set). Extensive knowledge of microbiology, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to infectious diseases. Experience with data collection tools related to epidemiology studies or infection surveillance programs. Familiarity with long-term care regulations and public health policies governing infection prevention in assisted living or long-term care settings. Ability to interpret complex medical records and documentation reviews accurately while maintaining strict confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
