POSITION PURPOSE
As a vital member of the surgical team, the
RN ASCU/PACU RN
Lead will work under the guidelines outlined by the New Mexico Nurse Practice Act, Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards, and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and National Integrated Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (NIAHO) standards. They combine clinical expertise with administrative and leadership responsibilities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care before and after surgical procedures. Lead plays a crucial part in ensuring that the Pre-op and PACU areas are fully stocked with necessary inventory, new staff members are mentored and oriented, assigned audits are completed and the
RN ASCU/PACU
policies and procedures are updated and reviewed as per policy. This will lead to increased cost-effectiveness and department efficiency. This position will include call coverage and
RN ASCU/PACU
responsibilities. This includes care of patients before and after surgical or procedural interventions requiring anesthesia or sedation. This role includes pre-operative assessment and preparation, and post-anesthesia monitoring and recovery. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of perioperative nursing, an ability to manage multiple priorities, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care. This lead position will also serve as the Meditech superuser for
ASCU/PACU
areas.
MINIMUM MANDATORY
qualifications
Experience:
3 years previous nursing experience in
ASCU/PACU
Associate's Degree (or higher) in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications:
Current and valid nursing license in the State of New Mexico, or compact state. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills; excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems. Adherence to Holy Cross Medical Center (HCMC) policies surrounding patient safety, infection control, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Skill in oral and written communication in dealing with a variety of individuals. Compassionate, patient-focused, and adaptable to the dynamic needs of a rural healthcare setting. A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Position requires scheduled shifts to cover the surgical schedule. Position requires individuals to assume "on call" duty on a rotating basis. Call required to cover evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Preferred qualifications Bilingual skills in English and Spanish languages. Previous Super User experience with Meditech Bachelors in Nursing preferred. American Society of perioperative nurses (ASPAN) certification and Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA) certification are preferred.
