Nature and Scope The psychiatric registered nurse on the Alert Team must be able to work interdependently within a team framework and demonstrate competency with mental health/chemical dependency assessment and referral. The incumbent must provide optimal care through assessment, planning and evaluation of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and their families. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and must be able to initiate contact with internal and external resources on behalf of the client. Working knowledge of the 12-step recovery process, and the ability to empower clients to use their own internal resources as well as to access relevant external services is essential. This person must demonstrate the ability to work with patients and their families and various caregivers in different settings. This person must have thorough knowledge of community resources and be capable of making appropriate referrals. This position may require travel to other sites within the health system to conduct in-person patient assessments when virtual evaluation is not feasible due to the nature of the assessment or technical limitations. This position does not provide patient care.
