This vital role combines clinical expertise with educational leadership to promote infection control practices, enhance patient safety, and foster a culture of health awareness across diverse care settings. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive nursing experience, including acute and sub-acute care, hospital and Skilled Nursing Facility environments, and infection prevention protocols, with a strong commitment to public health and patient safety. This position offers an opportunity to lead infection prevention initiatives while providing education to staff, patients, and community members. Duties Develop, implement, and monitor infection prevention policies aligned with current healthcare standards and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and HIPAA. Conduct routine surveillance of infectious disease trends within the facility to identify risks and develop targeted intervention strategies. Educate clinical staff, patients, and families on infection control procedures, aseptic techniques, and best practices in microbiology and epidemiology. Review medical records, documentation, and patient data to ensure compliance with infection control protocols and accurate data collection for reporting purposes. Lead staff training sessions on topics such as care plans, patient observation, anatomy knowledge, physiology, and microbiology to promote best practices in infection prevention. Collaborate with management to develop care plans that incorporate infection control measures tailored to specific patient populations such as assisted living residents or acute care patients. Monitor patient observations and conduct assessments related to infectious disease care, ensuring adherence to safety standards in environments like Level I Trauma Centers or Level II trauma centers. Manage data management systems for tracking infection rates, compliance metrics, and epidemiological data critical for public health reporting. Requirements Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current licensure in New York. Extensive nursing experience including critical care, hospital experience, or medical-surgical settings; experience in sub-acute care environments is highly preferred. Demonstrated expertise in infection control practices within healthcare settings such as SNFs or assisted living facilities. Strong knowledge of microbiology, epidemiology, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to infectious disease management. Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams effectively while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Familiarity with healthcare regulations including OSHA standards and HIPAA privacy requirements. Experience with data collection systems related to infection rates and patient monitoring; proficiency in managing medical records is essential. Excellent communication skills for delivering education across multidisciplinary teams and community outreach initiatives.
