Job Description

Join OhioHealth as a Critical Care/ED Nurse in our Nurse Residency program. In this role, you will provide high-quality, compassionate care to critically ill and emergency patients while building strong clinical skills under experienced preceptors. Responsibilities Participate fully in a structured nurse residency curriculum combining classroom education, simulation, and precepted clinical practice in critical care and emergency settings. Provide safe, evidence-based, patient- and family-centered nursing care to high-acuity and emergent patients under the guidance of an experienced preceptor. Perform comprehensive and focused patient assessments, monitor vital signs and hemodynamic status, and promptly report and respond to changes in condition. Administer medications, including high-alert and titratable drips, according to provider orders and established protocols, ensuring accuracy and patient safety. Assist with and learn ventilator management, advanced monitoring, and use of specialized equipment commonly used in ICU and ED environments. Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team during rounds and care conferences. Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and education accurately and timely in the electronic health record. Participate in rapid response events, codes, and emergent situations in accordance with hospital policies and residency training. Provide clear, compassionate communication and education to patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans. Engage in reflective practice, debriefings, and performance feedback sessions to continuously improve clinical judgment and professional practice. Demonstrate commitment to infection prevention, patient safety initiatives, and adherence to regulatory and organizational standards.
