What they do
A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to): Taking medical histories- documenting completely and accurately in the EMR Preparing patients for examinations and as needed assisting the medical provider during examinations Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens including urine, swabs, blood, or other as required Performing basic in-office procedures such as ear cleanings or other minor clinical procedures at the direction of the medical providers Performing basic Point of Care testing such as finger stick and urine dip Providing education and instruction to the patient based on the medical provider's assessment and plan.
