While the CRNP functions in an expanded role as a medical professional, they formulate medical diagnosis/es and prescribe medical, pharmacologic, therapeutic, or corrective measures within the scope of their practice and in collaboration with a physician licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Description of Duties Evaluate patients reporting to the health center via in-person, telehealth or triaged from registered nurses. Provide treatment of minor wounds, injuries and illnesses. Obtain medical history and perform physical and psychological assessments within the scope of their certification and practice. The medical history may include but not be limited to history of current illness or injury, review of symptoms, health status, family and developmental data, demographic information, et.al. Reconcile all medications and medical history and update EHR as needed and appropriate. Formulate a differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination and diagnostic test results and information. Perform appropriate diagnostic tests available in the office or through ordering diagnostic tests through an approved outside agency or laboratory. Interpret and report the results of diagnostic tests to the patient and develop an appropriate treatment plan. Schedule follow-up appointments as needed for outcome assessment. Prescribe or order appropriate necessary pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Ability to work independently and in collaboration with the physician. Possess a strong understanding of when to involve the collaborating physician in the history, assessment and treatment plan. Refer patients to hospital emergency departments, to outside medical providers, specialists and consultants, or to community agencies when further evaluation and/or treatment is needed. Collaborate with outside health care providers for continuity of care for the patient. Provide appropriate, timely professional health education pertaining to presenting problem and treatment. Formulate and document Patient Progress Notes, and other related reports. Manage medical records, test results and other patient data in a manner to ensure FERPA
  • PHI Treatment Records confidentiality and SHS confidentiality guidelines. Update patients' electronic health records ( EHR ) following vendor and FERPA
  • HPI Treatment Records guidelines and standards.
Responsible for standard operating procedures surrounding PHI and ROI (release of information) requests. Validate requests and authorizations for the release of medical information from the EHR Order Tuberculin skin tests, immunizations, injectable birth control and emergency contraception. Respond to medical emergencies within the SHC and as needed, in Kehr Union building, while following identified SOP guidelines as needed. Act as a health liaison for all students and collaborates with the appropriate student support office as needed. Collaborate and refer to on campus departments such as Counseling Services, Dean of Students, University Disability Services, Title IV, et al. Participate in quality assurance review, including the systematic, periodic review of records and plans of care that may result in a quality improvement plan. Maintain current evidence-based knowledge by completing continuing education activities related to the NP's specialty and clinical practice. Maintain certification and compliance with current state and federal laws. Apply current evidence-based practice and utilization of best practice standards. Assist student in navigating the Student Health Center website and provide feedback to the Director in order to maintain current student health center information on the website. Use secure messaging and telephone communication to speak with students and parents. Work with the Director to gather and report statistical data obtained from EHR . Develop, participate and/or lead health and wellness programs presented on campus per request and/or invitation. Prepare, review, and revise written SOP protocols in conjunction with the Health Center Director. Participate in periodic review and revision of Health Center maintenance, illness and counseling protocols in conjunction with other members of the Health Center staff. Assess the need for staff education in collaboration with Health Center Director; assume a lead role in developing and presenting in-service education programs for Health Center staff, other staff and students. Serve as a member of a Student Health Center quality assurance committee as assigned. Assist in review and update Student Health Services forms yearly. Report information from accident reports and Clery crime reports to appropriate CU-Bloomsburg departments. Communicate with outside regulatory agencies as needed. Participate in the orientation of professional staff to their role within the Student Health Center and CU Student Health Services. Decision Making Responsible to maintain a knowledge base of the leadership role and coordination of services in the Student Health Center, overall Student Health Services and the Department of Student Affairs in order to continue safe and effective continuity of healthcare operations within the Student Health Center in the absence of the Health Center Director. Fiscal Responsibility Responsible to be a steward of the budget in planning services and delivery of professional medical and pharmacologic clinical services and referrals. Supervisory Responsibility
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
: The C.R.N.P. reports administratively to the Health Center Director and is accountable to that position for all areas of responsibility other than those listed below. The Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, while functioning in the role as an Advanced Practice Provider, will work in collaboration with the Medical Director/Collaborative Physician contracted by the CU-Bloomsburg Student Health Center. The Physician/ CRNP collaborative relationship is accomplished according to the following protocol: The Nurse Practitioner and Collaborating Physician will be available for consultation with the ability to reach each other during all regular patient care hours either on-site or by telephone. The Collaborating Physician will ensure the availability of a back-up physician (Physician Colleague) for consultation by the Nurse Practitioner in the absence of the Collaborating Physician. When the Nurse Practitioner is absent, the Collaborating Physician together with the Physician Colleague (or other designated physicians) will provide coverage for the Nurse Practitioner's patients in accordance within established procedures and schedules. The Nurse Practitioner will consult with the Collaborating Physician or Physician Substitute whenever there is a question about the diagnostic or therapeutic approach to any patient's medical situation. The Nurse Practitioner may consult and refer patients to other health care providers as necessary and appropriate. In the event of a disagreement, between the Nurse Practitioner and the Collaborating Physician or Physician Substitute, regarding diagnosis or treatment, the Collaborating Physician will ultimately be responsible for deciding the course of action. The Collaborating Physician has the option to conduct chart reviews of the Nurse Practitioner's patient records as deemed necessary and appropriate in accordance with the collaborative agreement and may include documentation of history and physical findings, laboratory work, differential diagnosis, planned treatment, and follow-up. The Nurse Practitioner will participate in the Quality Assurance Program. Standards of Practice for the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner as published by the American Nurses Association (2022), unless superseded by Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg Student Health Center's policy, will be considered acceptable standards of advanced professional nursing and medical practice including the procedures for case management, diagnosis, and treatment. Minimum Requirements Profile Current certification as a Registered Nurse, and certification as a Registered Nurse Practitioner by the State Board of Nursing in any Adult Care specialty area, or Emergency Care, Family Care, or Primary Care. Current Nurse Practitioner National Certification Current Healthcare worker CPR certification Preferred Qualifications Two years (2) of professional licensed CRNP experience in College Health, Primary Care, Urgent Care, Emergency services or other related CRNP experience and/or training which provided the applicant with the required licensure and the below listed Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities Applicant Rating Criteria Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of the theory and practice of professional and advanced practice nursing.
