Independent contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and other applicable obligations. About the Role The RN-DC may serve as a charge nurse, staff nurse, or assessment coordinator. The selected nurse will provide professional care and treatment to individuals with mental or physical illnesses, injuries, behavioral needs, developmental disabilities, or difficulty completing daily activities. Depending on the assignment, you may coordinate nursing services, supervise direct-care personnel, develop individualized treatment plans, or provide specialized nursing care. What You'll Do Responsibilities may include: Providing professional nursing care and treatment to residents Completing comprehensive physical and mental-health assessments Developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized nursing care plans Administering medications, injections, IV therapies, and prescribed treatments Monitoring residents and responding promptly to changes in physical, emotional, or behavioral condition Coordinating nursing care within an assigned unit, ward, or living area Making decisions regarding staffing, supplies, and equipment Supervising paraprofessional and non-professional direct-care personnel Assigning duties and helping ensure appropriate service coverage Coordinating care with physicians, nurses, families, residents, and interdisciplinary treatment teams Meeting with residents and families to evaluate needs and discuss care Maintaining accurate medical records and regulatory documentation Entering resident health information into electronic medical records Supporting infection control, quality assurance, quality improvement, and risk-management activities Applying independent clinical judgment while following professional nursing standards Participating in the development and ongoing evaluation of resident care plans Expert-Level Expectations The selected RN should be highly knowledgeable in professional nursing practice and capable of: Providing clinical guidance to nursing and direct-care personnel Answering questions within their area of expertise Troubleshooting complex resident-care concerns Making sound decisions during routine and emergency situations Coordinating staff, services, supplies, and equipment Recognizing changes in resident condition and initiating appropriate interventions Managing multiple clinical priorities Supporting compliance with treatment, documentation, and regulatory standards Remaining calm, professional, and compassionate in challenging situations Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates must have: A current Registered Nurse license issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing; or A non-renewable temporary practice permit issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing The ability to enter resident health information accurately into an electronic medical records database Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Strong clinical-assessment and decision-making abilities Excellent communication, leadership, documentation, and organizational skills The ability to provide verifiable education, training, licensure, and employment history Required Clinical Competencies Candidates must be able to demonstrate competency in applicable professional nursing procedures, including but not limited to: Assessment and Care Planning Comprehensive physical assessments Mental-health status examinations Neurological checks Vital signs and blood-pressure monitoring Development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans Medication-administration record documentation Emergency and Respiratory Care CPR, first aid, AED use, and hemorrhage control Airway insertion and Ambu bag use Oxygen administration Peak-flow meter and pulse-oximeter use Suctioning, nebulizer treatments, and respiratory-mask use Ventilator and tracheostomy care Medication and IV Therapy Oral, topical, injectable, inhaled, and suppository medication administration Medication-dose calculations Intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections IV therapy and venipuncture Heparin-lock insertion, irrigation, and documentation IV infusion pumps, manual flow regulators, and tubing management Secondary medications and parenteral therapy Acceptance, transcription, and documentation of licensed practitioner orders within the RN scope of practice Specialized Resident Care Catheter insertion and care Specimen collection and diagnostic testing Wound care, wound cultures, dressing changes, drains, and pressure-injury care Ostomy and nephrostomy care Nasogastric, gastrostomy, and jejunostomy tube care and feeding EKG and glucometer use Tuberculin testing Enemas, eye and ear irrigation, and suture removal Sterile technique and infection-control procedures Hoyer-lift techniques and mobility assistance Isolation, restraint, and evacuation procedures Supportive devices, traction, braces, and positioning equipment All responsibilities must be performed within the RN's authorized scope and established standards of professional nursing practice. Additional facility-specific screening, clearances, competency testing, and training may be required.
