A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

Description:
Wexford Cardiology is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team as we care for our cardiac patients in the community. As the office nurse, they will be responsible for delivering a high level of care to each and every patient. They will be expected to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with the cardiologist, the staff and the patients and their families, in order to attain the best outcome possible.
Responsibilities:
Maintains patient confidentiality. Provides general nursing care to patients. Assists with incoming calls as necessary: assists with scheduling patients for appointments/tests and triages urgent clinical calls, taking appropriate action.
Message management responsibilities:
reviews patient tests, labs, etc. with cardiologist/physician assistant, calls patients with test results, responds to patient clinical messages, coordinates & schedules medical services for patients' medications, medical condition, etc. as directed by the cardiologist/physician assistant, and calls in prescriptions as necessary and as directed following established guidelines. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards. Instructs patients on preparations for tests. Provides educational instructions/material to patients as directed. Observes records and reports patient's condition and reactions to drugs and treatments to cardiologist/physician assistant. Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids cardiologist during examinations, procedures and testing of patients as needed. Applies Holter and event monitors and instructs patients as to how the device works. Scans in all Holter monitor results into patient charts, notifying the cardiologist of any abnormal results requiring immediate attention. Evaluates and transcribes the cardiac implantable electronic devices reports, notifying the cardiologist of any abnormal results. Performs exercise treadmill/pharmacologic stress testing and stress echocardiograms: escorts patient from the waiting area to exam room, obtains vitals, assists patient to recliner/treadmill, reviews and updates medication list with patient at the time of each exam and documents appropriately, explains procedure to patient, obtains patient's blood pressure and EKG's during the stress exam, monitors EKG for any abnormal heart rhythm and alerts cardiologist/physician assistant of findings. Responsible for monitoring the patient during the entirety of the patient's presence in the office. Maintains a clean environment in the stress testing area. Performs IV starts for nuclear stress patients, as needed, and echo patients who are requiring the support of an ultrasound enhancing agent. Assists in the stocking of stress room and IV supplies in exam area—reporting supply needs promptly to the office manager. Sends/receives patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations. Attends required meetings, participates in professional development activities, and maintains professional affiliations. Cross-trains to cover related positions as required.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures. Familiarity with cardiac medications and their effects on patients. Skill in taking vital signs—must demonstrate skill in maintaining records following documentation guidelines. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions. Organizational and communication skills—ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, patients and the general public. Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
Qualifications:
Completion of RN training program, PA RN licensure or have applied for practice permit. CPR Certification - maintain
BLS & ACLS
Preferred:
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience Cardiology/Critical Care background
