This position does not require the RN to be a DODD-certified Registered Nurse Trainer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Nursing Assessments The RN will: Complete initial nursing assessments as needed for individuals receiving services. Complete annual nursing assessments and reassessments as required. Perform additional assessments when there is a significant change in an individual's medical condition, medication regimen, treatment orders, nursing needs, or health status. Review diagnoses, medical history, allergies, medications, treatments, physician orders, hospital discharge instructions, and known health risks. Provide individual-specific instructions related to delegated nursing tasks. Observe and evaluate staff competency when appropriate. Verify that staff can safely perform delegated nursing tasks. Establish the appropriate level of nursing supervision and follow-up. Monitor the performance of delegated nursing activities. Provide additional instruction or retraining when necessary. Medication and Treatment Oversight The RN will: Review medication and treatment orders as assigned. Review Medication Administration Records and other medication-related documentation as needed. Monitor for medication errors, omissions, adverse reactions, or documentation concerns. Provide nursing guidance following medication or treatment errors. Communicate with physicians, pharmacies, guardians, and other healthcare providers when clinically appropriate. Assist with clarification of medication or treatment orders when necessary. Review health-related documentation for accuracy and completeness. Provide individual-specific instruction regarding medications, treatments, and health-related procedures when permitted within the RN's scope of practice. Staff Training and Competency Support The RN will: Provide individual-specific nursing education to staff. Educate staff regarding an individual's diagnoses, medical conditions, treatments, medications, symptoms, health risks, and emergency procedures. Evaluate staff understanding and competency related to delegated nursing tasks. Provide retraining when staff performance or safety concerns indicate additional education is necessary. Document individual-specific nursing training as required. This position does not authorize the RN to independently conduct DODD medication administration certification courses or issue DODD medication administration certifications unless the RN separately obtains the required DODD Registered Nurse Trainer certification. Changes in Condition and Emergency Support The RN will: Evaluate reported changes in an individual's health condition. Provide appropriate nursing recommendations and follow-up. Determine whether additional nursing assessment is necessary. Communicate with physicians or other healthcare providers as appropriate. Review hospital discharge instructions and new medical orders. Incident and Medication Error Follow-Up The RN will: Provide nursing consultation following medication errors, treatment errors, injuries, illness, hospitalization, or other health-related events. Review the health-related circumstances surrounding medication or treatment errors. Provide staff retraining or competency reevaluation when necessary. Participate in team meetings when nursing input is necessary. Communicate nursing recommendations to the individual's service team.
