Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurse

Rural Nevada Counseling (RNC) Mental Health Prescriber Job Description and Profile Rural Nevada Counseling (RNC) is seeking a licensed Psychiatric APRN to provide high-quality psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services to individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) and Substance Use Disorders (SUD). This is a fully remote, independent contractor position with a flexible schedule, allowing the provider to determine their availability based on client needs. The Contract Mental Health Prescriber will collaborate with RNC's multidisciplinary treatment team to deliver evidence-based psychiatric care while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, Medicaid, and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) standards.

Medical Director Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments. Provide ongoing medication management for clients with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. Diagnose and treat individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI), Substance Use Disorders (SUD), and co-occurring behavioral health conditions. Prescribe psychiatric medications in accordance with evidence-based practices and State of Nevada regulations. Provide Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), including prescribing buprenorphine and other FDA-approved medications for opioid and alcohol use disorders. Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and treatment outcomes. Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with therapists, case managers, peer support specialists, and other members of the treatment team. Complete documentation within established agency timelines. Participate in treatment team meetings and clinical consultations as needed. Consult with clinical staff regarding medication concerns and treatment recommendations. Respond to urgent medication-related issues during agreed-upon availability. Ensure prior authorizations and medication-related documentation are completed in a timely manner. Maintain compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, Medicaid requirements, DEA regulations, HIPAA, and CCBHC standards. Maintain accurate and timely electronic health record documentation. Maintain confidentiality of all client information. Participate in quality improvement activities and regulatory audits as requested. Perform other duties consistent with the scope of the contract agreement. Skills and Competencies Strong knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and psychopharmacology. Demonstrated experience treating individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI). Demonstrated experience treating Substance Use Disorders (SUD). Experience providing Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). Excellent clinical judgment and diagnostic skills. Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills. Ability to work independently in a remote environment. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and Microsoft Office applications. Education, Qualifications, and Experience Current unrestricted Nevada license as one of the following: Psychiatrist (MD or DO), or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC/APRN) with full prescriptive authority. Current DEA registration. Current MAT certification/authorization to prescribe buprenorphine and other appropriate medications for opioid use disorder. Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing psychiatric medication management preferred. Demonstrated experience treating individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) and Substance Use Disorders (SUD) is required. Experience working in community behavioral health, CCBHC, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), or integrated behavioral health settings is preferred. Ability to pass an FBI Criminal Background Check. Ability to comply with all agency credentialing and payer enrollment requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to perform duties using a computer and telehealth platform for extended periods. Ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff via video conferencing, telephone, and electronic messaging.
