About the unit:
The Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) at Sentara Obici Hospital is a licensed 20 beds unit. We see dual diagnosis behavioral health patients to include but not limited to: Bi-polar, schizophrenia, major depression and substance abuse. We are a low to moderate acuity locked unit. For several years we have had the highest customer service scores within behavioral health of Sentara as well as high employee engagement scores. The nurses work with a full interdisciplinary behavioral health team to include mental health techs, LPNs, Behavioral Health Therapist, Recreational Therapist, Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatrist. We have a team nursing structure
- all are engaged in the patient care.

The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care
- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence
- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing.
